These terms are an agreement between you and Garded LLC ("we", "us") for Maplingo on the web. By using Maplingo you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
1. What Maplingo is
Maplingo is a learning game about knowing where you are: the roads of a city, its landmarks and how they connect. It's education and entertainment.
It isn't a navigation system. It doesn't give turn-by-turn directions, and nothing in it should be relied on to get you somewhere safely, on time or at all.
2. Safety first
Don't use Maplingo while driving, cycling or doing anything else that needs your attention. Always obey traffic laws, road signs and officials, even where they differ from anything Maplingo shows.
Maplingo's maps, road shapes, names, directions and distances come from OpenStreetMap, OpenFreeMap and our own city data. They can be incomplete, outdated or wrong: a road may be closed, renamed, one-way, private or unsafe. Use your own judgment, and don't go anywhere you aren't allowed to be.
3. Who can use it
You can use Maplingo if you're old enough to agree to these terms where you live, or if a parent or guardian agrees to them for you. If we ever offer paid features, anyone under the age of majority needs a parent or guardian's permission to buy them.
4. Your progress
You don't need an account to play. Your progress is saved in your browser. If you clear your browser's data, switch browsers or use a private window, that progress isn't there, and we can't restore it because we never had a copy.
There's no sign-in today. If we add optional accounts later, you'll be responsible for keeping yours secure, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
5. Your license to use Maplingo
We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Maplingo for your own non-commercial use.
You may not:
- copy, modify, reverse-engineer or decompile the site, except where the law expressly allows it
- scrape, extract or republish its city data, lessons or other content
- interfere with the site, overload it, or get around any limit it sets
- use it in any unlawful way
Maplingo and its content, including its lessons, city data and design, belong to Garded LLC and its licensors. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (www.openstreetmap.org/copyright). Map tiles are served by OpenFreeMap. These terms don't transfer ownership of anything to you.
6. Price and paid features
Maplingo is free to play. You don't need to pay or sign up for anything.
If we offer paid features later, what's included, the price and any renewal terms will be shown before you buy, and additional terms for those purchases will be posted here first. Nothing you've already completed will be taken away, and your progress stays yours whether or not you pay.
7. Third-party services
Maplingo relies on services we don't control: OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap for the map, Cloudflare for road data, and Netlify for hosting. We aren't responsible for their content, accuracy or availability, and your use of them may also be subject to their own terms.
8. Availability
Maplingo needs an internet connection for the map. We may change, suspend or discontinue features. If we ever sell paid features, we won't knowingly remove one you've paid for without a refund for the unused part.
9. No warranty
Maplingo is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't promise that Maplingo will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any map, road, route, distance or answer in it is correct.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss, injury or damage arising from how you traveled, where you went or anything you did relying on Maplingo. Where liability can't be excluded, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us for Maplingo in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing here limits liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit. If you're a consumer, nothing in these terms affects the rights you have under the mandatory consumer laws where you live.
11. Ending these terms
You can stop using Maplingo at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive, including ownership, no warranty, limitation of liability and governing law, continue after that.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The current version is always posted here with its date. We'll flag material changes on the site. Continuing to use Maplingo after a change means you accept it.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before bringing a claim, please write to us so we can try to resolve it informally. Any dispute that can't be resolved that way will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts.
14. General
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about Maplingo on the web. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we don't enforce a right straight away, we haven't given it up. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours to a successor that continues to provide Maplingo.
