The highways, and where they go.

Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94). The Dan Ryan runs due south from the Loop with the Red Line down its middle — fourteen lanes at its widest.

Eisenhower Expressway (I-290). The Eisenhower runs due west from the Loop with the Blue Line in its median — the city's straightest sightline.

Interstate 57. I-57 peels southwest off the Dan Ryan at the city's far south edge — the road to Memphis.

Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94). The Kennedy runs northwest from the Loop to O'Hare, shadowing Milwaukee Ave the whole way with the Blue Line in its median.

Stevenson Expressway (I-55). The Stevenson runs southwest beside the Sanitary Canal, tracing Archer Ave out toward Midway.

DuSable Lake Shore Drive. DuSable Lake Shore Drive traces the water the whole length of the city. If the lake is on your right you're heading north.
